GUEST: The Transition Network, (TTN) is a vibrant community of more than 1400 women, predominantly from the New York City area, who are facing transitions by dynamically taking control of their lives. Most of us are in our fifties and sixties, and represent a spectrum of professions in business, government, health care, academia, not-for-profits and the arts.
Envisioned as a resource to meet our concerns and interests with new activities, new connections and new achievements, The Transition Network benefits from the power of our demographics and the talent, skills and experience of the women who pioneered changes in the professions and have had successful careers. Headquartered in New York City, we are growing quickly, and are organized as a national organization which provides leadership, sets policy, runs a full service web site for the organization, supports the development of chapter organizations and provides a voice for the growing population of women over 50.
Christine Millen is the President and co-founder of The Transition Network, a not-for-profit organization for women over 50 who are redefining and embracing the next stage of life in a personally meaningful, innovative, and fulfilling way. is a retired partner of Deloitte, the international consulting and professional services firm where she led major consulting projects for many of the firm's largest clients in both the public and private sector. Her expertise covers the strategic use of information systems, the design and installation of both custom and packaged software and the successful implementation of change in existing organizations. In 2000 she was in charge of the award winning Tri-State Community Service Impact program when 900 Deloitte partners and staff spent the day working with over 5,000 students in 15 NYC Public Schools. She is Vice-President, Board of Trustees of Signature Theatre Company; a New York theater dedicated to showcasing the works of a single playwright for an entire season (recently selected by LMDC as the theater for the World Trade Center Cultural Arts Center). Board of Directors of Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center and Member of the Advocacy Council for the Citizens' Committee for Children. Christine is a native of England who lives with her spouse in New York City. She has two adult children who were born and raised in Manhattan and two adult stepchildren. She is a graduate of the University of London. Her personal interests include travel, reading, the theater, skiing and running. She is conversant in French and still remembers some German and less Latin.
Betsy Werley is the first Executive Director of The Transition Network (www.thetransitionnetwork.org), which she joined in July 2005. TTN helps women make the most of the second half of their lives, through networking, volunteer projects, expert speakers and advocacy to promote positiHaving joined a non-profit, Betsy is now in the third phase of her career. She practiced corporate law for a dozen years in New York City. She then moved to the business side of JPMorgan Chase, where she spent another dozen years as a product manager, project manager and communications executive. Her high-profile projects included the launch of the firm's first retail cash management account, leadership of automation efforts in the firm's internal procurement department, implementation of a program to manage the firm's global contractor workforce, and internal communications roles in the Retail Bank and the firm's central Internet organization. ve images of aging, and new ways to think about retirement and volunteering. As a member of a businesVolunteering and community involvement have been an important part of Betsy's career. Highlights include: Financial Women's Association - President, 2001 - 2002; board member with responsibilities including marketing, non-profit programming, diversity, corporate sponsorships. Baruch College Launched one-to-one mentoring program during FWA Presidency; Member of Baruch Executives on Campus Advisory Committee;Lower East Side Girls Club; Planned first Money Matters conference for 50 high school students, including financial literacy and career counseling programs, on-site shadowing of working women in business and the artss unit diversity committee, she helped develop and launch a self-directed mentoring program. Betsy lives on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, with her husband Bob Plows. She enjoys exercise (running, biking, kayaking, swimming); New York City cultural activities (museums, plays, ballet); and travel. She is a graduate of Duke University (majors in history and English) and of the University of Chicago Law School.
