The Leaves of Life, The Ministry of Jesus, The Throne of my Life, and Aging in a Christian Life. GUEST: Pastor Richard Pettijohn is the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Boaz in Boaz, Alabama. He is married to Vickie and they have three children and 4 grnadchildren. Pastor Pettijohn accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord, and followed him in baptism at the age of 14, while attending First Baptist Church of Grandview, TX. After several years of wrestling with God's call on my life to serve Him full-time as a pastor of a local church, I joyfully surrendered to serve Him in that capacity in April 1989.1 began to supply preach soon after that, and in the fall of 1989, Vicki and I moved our family to Louisville, KY where I entered seminary. I believe my greatest gifts as a pastor are in the areas of pastoral care and preaching. Before coming to First Baptist Boaz he was Senior Pastor at Kennewick Baptist Church, Kennewick, WA; Pastor of Highlands Baptist Church in Reedsport, OR; Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in New Salisbury, IN, and Interim Pastor of Aldrich Baptist Church in Aldrich, AL. He was in the US Army 1975-1979, a High School Teacher and Coach 1981-1986, and an Insurance Agent 1986-1991. He was also a Moderator at Columbia Basin Baptist Association, President of the Pastors' Association, on the Board of Trustees at Northwest Baptist Convention and First Vice-President of the Northwest Baptist Convention. Richard has led his churches to be active in all areas of ministry. Currently, his church hosts programs like Upward Basketball, Women's Christian Fellowship groups, Backyard Bible Clubs, VBS, block parties, etc. He believes a church should minister to and be a leader in their community—making the best use possible of the facilities God has blessed them with. A recent church building project addressed some key issues which made the church more accessible for families with young children, senior adults, as well as recreational and fellowship facilities. Richard believes in missions and in supporting them through giving, praying and going. The Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong missions are strongly emphasized. He participates in and promotes mission events and trips in the community and to whatever area of the world God calls them to. His church currently gives 12.5% to the Cooperative Program and 4% to the local association. Richard is humbled by the fact that God has called him into the ministry because he loves it so much. He is passionate about his walk with God and following God's will in his life. He truly feels that God's leadership and direction have brought him to First Baptist Boaz. God has put Boaz in his heart and he is excited about the opportunity to serve Him here. Statement of Faith - The Bible is the inspired Word of God without mixture of truth and error. It contains the principles we need to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God, and which allow us to serve Him effectively, as well as experience the abundant life He desires for us as His children. Salvation comes only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and baptism is an act of obedience on our part that publicly identifies us with the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I strongly believe in the local church maintaining a balanced Acts 1:8 strategy - involving prayer, giving and going - to reach the lost from their particular Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. I stand beside the Southern Baptist Convention and strongly support the Cooperative Program. I affirm the ministry of the local association and the state convention as they come alongside the local church to support and equip. First Baptist Boaz... Sunday School provides small group settings within the context of the larger church where people of similar interests meet together to share God's Word and life itself.
