GUEST: Darlene Battles is a Singer, Author and Speaker from a small town called Wynne, Arkansas. I grew up on a farm where my father raised cotton and rice. I started singing in church, but drifted away to sing country music. I was in a talent show in the early 70's and won 1000.00 for singing and it got me to move to Nashville with the ''Joe Taylor'' booking agency. Darlene traveled around with such artists as Tammy Wynette, Dottie West, Gene Watson, Barbara Fairchild, and many others. I have been in the music business since I was 16. I was saved, so I started singing for the Lord, and then he called me into the jail and prison ministry a couple of years ago. I am a member of ''The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry'' of Mississippi. When I am not on the road, I go to the jail here in Gulfport every Sunday and minister to the girls, where many are being transformed by God's word. I also preach and teach at ''The American Thrift Store'' in Ocean Springs, Miss., every Thursday morning. The owners of this establishment let their employees have church before they go to work. I have done this for about two years. I travel around to various churches and jails singing the gospel. I am a member of the gospel group ''ON CALL''. I also have a singing ministry of my own. My interest are swimming, but I am so busy for the Lord I don't have a lot of time for anything else. I stay busy recording my music or preparing sermons. I am writing a book of all the things I have seen God do, not only in my life, but others as well. I have a powerful testimony of forgiveness.
I met my husband, ''Jerry Jaye'', when I was 16 years old. My husband was a recording artist, and had a top 10 seller in 1967 called ''Hello Josephine'', then he had a country hit called ''Honky Tonk Women Love Red Neck Men''. It went to the top 10 in the country charts. My husband is in ''The Rockabilly Hall Of Fame'' also. So I have just traveled with him all my life. My husband has three children, and we have six grandchildren whom I love dearly. They live away from us, so I don't get to spend a lot of time with them, but they are beautiful!
