Crosby began her entrepreneurial career in the 1970s when she founded an office equipment company, Delta Business Systems (“DBS”) in Orlando, Florida. She identified an emerging technology in the plain paper copier industry and grew the company to be a dominant provider in Florida’s booming business market. Inc. (magazine) named Delta Business Systems as America’s 29th fastest-growing private company in 1982. Crosby grew the company to sales of $32 million with a staff of 600 employees located in nine offices throughout the state of Florida. She left DBS in 1983 to explore the publishing industry, and DBS was sold to Alco Standard, now IKON Office Solutions (“IKON”), currently the world’s largest independent distributor of office equipment and document management services. In 1984, Crosby formed Currier Davis Publishing and published a powerful and controversial child abuse prevention book, Death from Child Abuse . . . and no one heard, by Eve Krupinski and Dana Weikel. The book was well received, and it set her on course to become a public advocate for children and families. Her interest in supporting families led to the launch of Family Journal Publications, a chain of family magazines in the Florida market. Titles included Central Florida Family, Jacksonville Family, Tampa Bay Family, and Black Family Today. These monthly magazines emerged at the head of a national wave of parenting publications and were a popular resource for young parents. Crosby sold Family Journal Publications to the Chicago-based Tribune Company in 1995 and has maintained the book publishing venture, Currier Davis Publishing, to continue distribution of the 1984 abuse prevention title. In September 2003, Crosby assembled partners and industry professionals to begin research and development of a magazine targeting grandparents.
