Mitchell will be joined by Sandy Williams, Editor-Publisher of Sand Mountain Living Magazine in Geraldine, Alabama as they discuss "Life in the Mountains - Southern Style" with... Thinking Outside the Box, Spur of the Moments and Appointment Books, Peanut Butter Sandwiches on the Computer, Daddy’s Little Girl and Grandpa’s Buddy, and Mountain Folks. GUEST: Sandy Williams was born and raised high atop beautiful Sand Mountain in northeast Alabama. She graduated in 1984 from Albertville High School and attended Snead State Community College until she married a prior blind date in 1985. The couple soon found themselves a family of five and Sandy found her days filled with PTO meetings and Little League. When her three adorable toddlers matured into independent teenagers, she resurrected her lifelong love of writing and stumbled upon her destiny. She quickly became a full-time writer and soon had many national publishing credits in her resume. Her article and essays have appeared in over 50 magazines, newspapers and anthologies across the United States, Australia and England. After a painful divorce in 2004, she took a two year hiatus from the writing world and owned and operated a successful country store in DeKalb County, also in northeast Alabama. After selling her business in 2006, her true calling in life beckoned once again. This time, however, she had a taste for running her own business in her soul and made an impulse decision to publish her own magazine. She read a couple of “how-to” books, and jumped in feet first. “Sand Mountain Living” is currently in its 5th month and enjoying great success. Sandy now spends her days writing articles, designing advertisement, and putting the monthly publication together, as well as handling all the business details associated with operating a small business. Sandy was brought up listening to the voices of her ancestors who lived and breathed Alabama folklore. Her grandfather Morrow was a legendary storyteller and the author carries on the family tradition of transporting the reader with a natural rhythm to another place and time in her beloved homeland. In her “spare time,” she loves to read, cook, spend time outdoors, and play with her one-year-old grandson. She also has two forthcoming novels in the works. Sand Mountain Living is a monthly magazine celebrating the lifestyles and heritage of northeast Alabama. Each issue features a few tales about different places to enjoy in the area, as well as lively tales about interesting folks and unique businesses in the community. Each magazine also includes a few up to date articles about health, sports, religion, books, agriculture and anything else that might need a little attention from time to time. A few recipes are included in each issue as well to get your mouth watering for some down home cooking. A few jokes are scatterd throughout the pages also to keep you smiling all month long. The magazine is simply a good, wholesome read for the whole family.
