HOST: SHIRLEY W. MITCHELL, National Author/Writer/Columnist/Speaker
TOPIC: FIGHTING CANCER - THE ALTERNATIVES
EPISODE DESCRIPTION: This week Host Shirley W. Mitchell will be joined by her "Guest" Dr Carl O. Helvie, RN, MS, MPH, DrPH as they discuss "Fighting Cancer - The Alternatives" with... Holistic Versus Conventional, You Can Beat Lung Cancer and Integrative Interventions.
GUEST: Carl Helvie was told he had lung cancer and 6 months to live by his physcian. Carl refused chemotherapy, surgery, and used holistic, natural, non-invasive interventions (laetrile, pancreatic enzymes, vitamins, minerals, herbs, vegan type diet, prayer, meditation, affirmations, and others). Now, 39 years later, I am the longest living lung cancer survivor (I believe), and at age 81, beat the odds of lung cancer, 3 chronic illnesses and 5 prescribed medications that are the average for a 75 year old. I want to share my story to empower others to prevent and overcome lung cancer and live disease free into their older years using a holistic natural lifestyle. My book, "You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions" discusses how I treated lung cancer and remained cancer free for 39 years after.

BOOK: You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions - ISBN# by Dr. Carl O. Helvie, RN with Ayni Books
This book was a joy to write because it discusses my experience with lung cancer 38 years ago when contemporary medicine gave me 6 months to live and I beat the odds of lung cancer and also the odds of 3 chronic illnesses and 5 prescribed medications (average for a 75 year old). And I used all natural holistic interventions so there were no side effects. Now at age 80 I am in excellent health and lead an active life, I want the same for others and realize it is so easy for those who are willing to live a healthy holistic lifestyle involving physical, mental, spiritual, relationships. environmental, and political components. Most of my other books have been textbooks for nursing and health students but this book and my last one are for the general public. Included are additional chapters by Bernie Siegel, MD, Francisco Contreras, MD, James Forsythe, MD, HMD, Kim Dalzell, RD, PhD, and Tanya Harter Pierce, MA, MFCC on alternative/integrative interventions for lung cancer.
